In this 1956 performance, Isaac Stern (1920-2001) and Leonard Rose (1918-1984) perform the Brahms double concerto for violin and cello in A minor, Op. 102. Bruno Walter (1876-1962) conducts the Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra of New York (later known as the New York Philharmonic). I created this video from an LP collection entitled "Columbia Basic Library of Great Classical Music - 300 Years of Immortal Music Performed by the World's Leading Artists." The serial number of this collection -- comprised of 3 LPs and issued sometime in 1955/56 -- is L3L-233. So that there is no question in the mind of the listener, I rely principally on images from the LP, LP notes and jacket in order to document the authenticity of historically important recordings such as these. This video concludes with an image of Brahms' grave at the Central cemetery in Vienna.
Rose and Stern won the Grand Prix du Disque (1957) for this performance.
