The late Austrian conductor Felix Prohaska (1912-1987) leads the Chamber Orchestra of the Vienna State Opera in this recording, issued on the Vanguard label in 1957, of the Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 in F major, BWV 1047 by JS Bach. I created this video from the LP shown above, a Vanguard High Fidelity Demonstration Record" entitled "Orchestral Masterworks of JS Bach," serial number SRV-105.
1. Allegro
2. Andante (5:03)
3. Allegro assai (8:53)
Artists in this performance include Jan Tomasow, Helmut Wobisch, Hans Reznicek, and Karl Mayrhofer.
With the exception of the orchestral score fragments and those of Bach, all images used to create this video were taken from the LP label (9:05) and jacket, front and reverse. So there is no question in the mind of the listener about the provenance of this recording, I rely principally on images from the LP and LP jacket to validate the authenticity of historical performances such as this.
