David Oistrakh (1908-1974) and Lev Oborin (1907-1974) perform the second movement of the Grieg violin sonata in F major, Op. 8. This recording was made in the USSR sometime in early 1959 as part of what was then a US-Soviet cultural exchange program, which brought to Moscow a pair of American musicians -- violinist Louis Gabowitz (at one time concertmaster for the New York Philharmonic) and pianist Harriet Parker Salerno (a duo who at the time were recording chamber works in the US) to perform a Grieg sonata of their own (No. 3 in C minor, Op. 45).
The LP from which this video was created was manufactured in the USA and issued on the Bruno label, serial number BR 14038.
All images in this video are taken from the LP and the LP jacket, with the exception of those of Grieg.
